Empowered Yoga: An Evolving and Integrated Tradition

This course is perfect for those who want a deeper understanding of yoga and how to implement these practices into daily living as well as those who are interested in leading group classes.

LIMITED SPACING

Offering yoga instructors and students seeking a deeper understanding of yoga, and ultimately themselves, in an intimate and nurturing environment in which to learn, grow, and become empowered as teachers and individuals. Born from over 20 years of research, study, practice, and thousands of hours of teaching, Empowered Yoga is a comprehensive program combining ancient traditions and philosophies with modern advancements in biomechanics, exercise science, and psychology.

Our 200HR Teacher Training program runs over 6 weekends spread over 2 months. The weekends are typically spaced 2 weeks apart to allow for ample time to absorb the material and practice the teaching components.

Each weekend we explore and dissect various layers of practice including history, philosophy, anatomy, physiology, energetics, breathing, psychology, mindfulness, and more. In addition, we will explore various components of teaching methodology during each weekend module including:
– how to effectively cue and modify postures for all levels and abilities
– introducing breath work in a progressive and gentle way
– sequencing classes intelligently according to goals of practice (Restorative versus invigorating)
– introducing and guiding meditation creatively and cooperatively for diverse needs
– trauma-informed teaching, consent, adjustments, and language

Our vision is to extract meaning and context from ancient practices and combine this with modern ideas from psychology and exercise sciences in order to create accessible classes while honouring the roots of yoga. It is very clear that no two people share the same experiences, this program opens the dialogue between many therapeutic and movement modalities empowering through the balance of education and exploration.

This course is perfect for those who want a deeper understanding of yoga and how to implement these practices into daily living as well as those who are interested in leading group classes.

Certificates of completion may be issued upon the successful completion of the requirements above. Once a certificate is issued students may be eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT.
Homework, Online & Practicum (100HRS)

Our 200hr Teacher Training has a combination of hours done in studio and online. This allows students more flexibility within their schedules while enabling us to maintain the quality of the program. There are many videos and online learning supports which students can utilize during non-classroom hours to gain more anatomy, practice components, and applied instruction. Some students may require more homework or online tutorial hours depending on the level of experience, but it typically averages 8 HRS/week in addition to the scheduled classroom hours.

In addition to the required weekends’ modules, there will be a practical exam component where students will teach a public class of their choosing.  For those students out of town both the practical/assisted teaching will be arranged in hometown. These hours are completed after the scheduled classroom hours.
